Her father is television producer Frank von Zerneck. Her mother is actress-writer Julie Mannix. One of her grandfathers is actor Peter von Zerneck and the other is writer Daniel P. But her biggest role to date is that of Donna Ludwig, the teenager who was rock star Valens' real life love interest before his death. In life Ritchie and Donna broke up before the plane crash that took his life. In the film they remain sweethearts. Von Zerneck is a studious young woman unlike the starlets and glamour girls of yore. There is nothing giddy or giggly about her. When she isn't acting she works in the family's book store, of which she is part owner, in the San Fernando Valley.
